NEW!
or… “neo”. I’m a “neo”. At least, sometimes people call us that, because “neonatologist” is hard to say (even for me, and I’m into my third decade of being one!)
“Neonate” is just another word for “newborn”(see representative picture) and “-ology” means “the study of”, so a “neo” gets to study newborns: to attend to them. As a medical school faculty physician, I’m an “attending” neonatologist, and that makes all kinds of sense to me. Newborns are fascinating people, well worth attending to! One of the most fascinating things about them is that they come with other people attached — in fact, when we first meet them they are sometimes still literally attached to their moms.
One other thing about “new” … the One Who says “Behold, I am making all things new” (Rev 21:5) became a newborn Himself! He became human, attaching Himself to a human mother and a human family, to welcome us all into His family as adopted siblings. My goal for 2020 is to learn more from Him about welcoming, and to share His welcome.
